In the more recent decades, the international community has seen the presence of jihadist groups on the rise in Northern Africa, the Middle East, and Southern Asia. These militant Islamists are often associated with jihadism in the sense of a "holy war," but, colloquially, the term also refers to a greater struggle or strife associated with Islam, both politically and financially. As a result, many militant jihadist groups are searching for new forms of political and economic control within discordant communities. Through their activities, these jihadist coalitions have built new states out of ethnic civil wars and political tensions. How exactly have they managed to do this effectively? What has added to their established power?

Join the World Affairs Council-Washington, DC as we welcome Dr. Aisha Ahmad, author of Jihad & Co.: Black Markets and Islamist Power , as she presents on the presence of militant jihadist groups throughout the world, and discusses how they pose a significant security risk to the world.

Copies of the book can be pre-purchased at here.
